Critical Literacy..................

When I was in semester three, the seniors always reminded me that i will face a tough subject named Critical Literacy. Well, looking at the title of the subject, the first thing that came out on my mind is absolutely about the critical. Even though I don’t have any idea how tough it is, but the Critical word really freak me out. Surprisingly, the first moment I attended the class, it is not that though. In fact, I started to love it. Seriously!

I don’t know about you guys but to me, one thing that I love about this particular subject is, students can learn about history. Yeah I love history. Boring? Well I couldn’t care less! For example, the articles about Malay Dilemma and Mein Kampf. I must admit that if the lecturer didn’t give me the assignment about these books, I will never read even a line in it. But Critical Literacy gives me the chance to know deeper about the books and its author. And to make it more interesting, I can learn about politics, which really grab my attention. I like politic but the politic situation in this country annoys me a lot so I don’t really follow the current issues. Okay I won’t comment on this politic thing.

The most precious thing that I learnt during these 4 months of Critical Literacy is the way to convey your ideas to others. In Critical Literacy, I learnt that there is no right or wrong in conveying your ideas. What matters the most is the way you stick to your ideas and defend your point of view on certain issues. The important thing is to make your argument valid and solid.

I really enjoyed this love-hate relationship with Critical Literacy but to repeat this subject for next semester, definitely it is a big NO!

Master diver Frank Mcguire (Richard Roxburgh) has explored the south
pacific's Esa-Ala caves for months. But when they are about to head for the exit,
flash flood comes and cut off the exit. Frank's team including his teenage son
Josh (Rhys Wakefield) and financier Carl Hurley (Ioan Gruffurd) are forced to
radically alter the plans. With dwindling supplies, the crew must navigate an
underwater labyrinth to make it to the surface of the earth. Soon they are confronted with the unavoidable question: can they survive or will they be
trapped forever?

                                                  Review
A pure survival drama without any monster or supernatural components in this movie. Well that is a good sign since i am not a fan of supernatural movie. The adventure, non-stop action in Sanctum keeps me awake through out the whole movie. another thing that i love about this movie is the beauty of the set where this movie was filmed. The scenery is absolutely mesmerizing. Australia is definitely one of the place that i want to visit before i die. Sanctum also tells us the value of life, how to make a wise decision during critical moment and learn from mistakes. Frank used to make mistakes but he managed to fix it by sacrificing his life for his beloved son Josh. and in order to survive, you really need to fight for it even though it might cause us others life but sometimes you need to be selfish. I also learn that when you deal with the ocean or a cave, it’s going to do what it’s going to do, and it does not care if you’re there. On the other hand, nature offers us incredible gifts, incredible beauty and incredible insights. It’s a give and take.

The Guilty Thing that pleasure me???

When I was assigned to write about the guilty thing that pleasure me, a lot of things came across my mind. And for sure, most of them are really bad things which I don't really have the guts to write it in this blog. LOL! To be frank, I am not that brave to tell about my “fantasy” to public even though there are not many people who want to read my blog but still, it is embarrassing to let the world know about my dark secret. But a task is still a task so I have to complete this entry with a secret. Well at least I got one!

Yes I do smoke! I USED to be a smoker but now I already quit. Until today, I still wonder why I chose to smoke because there are no advantages on smokers at all.

Please don’t ask me when I started to smoke because I will never tell it to you since my siblings may read this post  and they will tell about it to my parents and they might pissed off! Haha. I know my parents will get mad if they know that I used to be a smoker but somehow the feeling is the guiltiest thing that pleasures me. Even though I know there are a lot of disadvantages of smoking but I kept on smoking as it can “let the steam off”. I don’t know about you guys but in my opinion, smoking can help me to “reduce” the stressed. But as time goes by, I started to learn that cigarette is nothing but a harmful thing that can shorten my time in this world. Besides, I can’t save my money on cigs so I decided to quit smoking. And now I am enjoying my life without a pack of cigarettes. Hope this will last forever. I wish!

The Review

The blind side is a true story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family. Michael Oher, a troubled youth who never knew his father and whose mother struggled with drug addiction, manages to escape a tragic life on the streets through American football. The story starts when Michael Oher, played by Quinton Aaron is spotted on the street by Leigh Anne Tuohy, played by Sandra Bullock. Learning that the young man is one of her daughter's classmates, Leigh Anne insists that Michael who wearing shorts and a t-shirt in the dead of winter at that time come out of the cold. Without a moment's hesitation, she invites him to stay at the Tuohy home for the night. What starts out as a sign of kindness turns into something more as Michael becomes part of the Tuohy family despite the differences in race, culture and status within the society even as Leigh Anne's rich friends wonder what she is doing. One even suggests that her teenage daughter Collins is not safe around him, much to Leigh Anne's disgust.
Living in his new environment, the teen faces a completely different set of challenges to overcome. And as the family helps Michael fulfill his potential, both on and off the football field, Michael's presence in the Tuohys' lives leads them to some insightful self-discoveries of their own.
I love watching this movie simply because of the honesty in this story of Michael Oher. Movies about racial prejudice are something I really like to watch as I can see it from a lot of different perspectives. But I want to make it clear that I do not like racist. In fact, I really hate them! As we are living in this era of globalization, I find racist as disgusting and ridiculous. Back to the movie, The Blind Side, the script from director John Lee Hancock, based on the book by Michael Lewis, is fairly straightforward. You know where it's going to go and how the story is going to play out, but not to a fault. The Blind Side is a rare feel-good picture where you actually feel good for most of it, either thanks to the charm of Bullock or the film's surprisingly funny scenes with the super-confident SJ and the quiet giant Big Mike.
