Synopsis
A team of underwater cave-divers is on a treacherous expedition to the largest,
most beautiful and least accessible cave sytem on Earth. When a tropical storm
forces them to go deep into the caverns, they must fight raging water, deadly terrain and creeping panic as they search for unknown escape route to the sea.
Master diver Frank Mcguire (Richard Roxburgh) has explored the south
pacific's Esa-Ala caves for months. But when they are about to head for the exit,
flash flood comes and cut off the exit. Frank's team including his teenage son
Josh (Rhys Wakefield) and financier Carl Hurley (Ioan Gruffurd) are forced to
radically alter the plans. With dwindling supplies, the crew must navigate an
underwater labyrinth to make it to the surface of the earth. Soon they are confronted with the unavoidable question: can they survive or will they be
trapped forever?
Review
A pure survival drama without any monster or supernatural components in this movie. Well that is a good sign since i am not a fan of supernatural movie. The adventure, non-stop action in Sanctum keeps me awake through out the whole movie. another thing that i love about this movie is the beauty of the set where this movie was filmed. The scenery is absolutely mesmerizing. Australia is definitely one of the place that i want to visit before i die. Sanctum also tells us the value of life, how to make a wise decision during critical moment and learn from mistakes. Frank used to make mistakes but he managed to fix it by sacrificing his life for his beloved son Josh. and in order to survive, you really need to fight for it even though it might cause us others life but sometimes you need to be selfish. I also learn that when you deal with the ocean or a cave, it’s going to do what it’s going to do, and it does not care if you’re there. On the other hand, nature offers us incredible gifts, incredible beauty and incredible insights. It’s a give and take.
